High-Tech Gruenderfonds backs online advertising technology company Semasio

April 7, 2011

Semasio received a 500K EUR seed funding by High-Tech Gruenderfonds. The company develops a demand-side targeting platform that enables customers to increase their marketing effectiveness and efficiency.

Semasio GmbH is a Hamburg-based company developing a product called the User Intelligence Platform, a Software-as-a-Service proposition empowering media agencies and advertisers to build their very own database of profiles on the internet users they are commercially interested in. This User Intelligence Database is built by turning all contacts with the users – and for a large media agency or advertiser this is easily 250 per month – into data points from which a qualitatively new depth of information is derived, owing to the unique profiling paradigm developed by Semasio. These user profiles can then be used to create advertiser-specific target groups based on the concrete marketing goals of the advertiser. Turning learning into action the target groups can flexibly be bought on the desired media without any dispersion losses or reliance on targeting from publishers.

“We believe that online targeting – to a large extent – will be driven by the best targeting technology in the future”, says Andreas Quauke, Senior Investment Manager with High-Tech Gruenderfonds. “Semasio’s  unique approach to profiling internet users will result in effective and cost-efficient targeting for their customers”, Quauke continues.

Semasio is founded by CEO Kasper Skou, former Chief Product Officer at behavioral targeting veteran wunderloop (now an AudienceScience company), and Thomas Rask Thomsen, founder and CTO of enterprise search engine company Speed of Mind. Kasper brings deep industry knowledge and network to the table, while Thomas brings a strong record and competencies in creating large-scale, statistically advanced internet-based applications.

The company currently has offices in Hamburg, Copenhagen and Kiev and is working with pilot clients to develop the User Intelligence Platform in very close cooperation with the users.

About Semasio
Semasio offers its Software-as-a-Service-solution to media agencies and advertisers. Based on the User Intelligence Platform they can generate, through the online users, an own profile database of their target groups . By means of a unique semantic profiling model, which Semasio is currently developing, a maximum quantity of information is extracted from the data. The generated user profiles can be used to define target groups for each marketing objective and to address them flexible, without spreading losses and independent from media’s targeting Services.
