High-Tech Gründerfonds and Seedfonds BW invest in the future of Desktop Infrastructures
December 18, 2012
The German cloud specialist tocario GmbH (www.tocario.com) secures the first round of funding from High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and from the Seedfonds Baden-Württemberg. The Investment supports tocario with the market launch of the next generation of Hosted Virtual Desktops (HVD) for SMB Customers as well as Service Providers worldwide.
tocario has been founded by former employees of the industry giant Hewlett-Packard and has developed a Hosted Virtual Desktop Solution, which helps organizations to make their desktop infrastructures more secure, easier to manage and more flexible to use. The subscription-based desktop – including the Operating System, Applications and User Data – is hosted centrally in a secure German datacenter. From there it can be accessed any time, anywhere and on any end user device. Unique to tocario’s technology is its openness to all Operating Systems. On the one hand for the centrally installed desktops in the datacenter on the other hand for the end user devices that are used for accessing the hosted virtual desktops. Customers of tocario are therefore no longer limited to the use of Windows, but are free to choose from a variety of different operating systems for their virtual desktop infrastructure.
“The timing for the investment is prefect. The funding and the support from High-Tech Gründerfonds and from the Seedfonds BW will enable us to push the market entry and the further development of tocario’s Hosted Virtual Desktop solution.” Said Carsten Unnerstall, co-founder of tocario. “We are very excited to welcome High-Tech Gründerfonds and the Seedfonds BW aboard of tocario”
The business model of tocario is based on the Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) principle and therefore highly scalable. With DaaS, organizations rent their desktop environments on demand from tocario without having to invest large sums into building an own dedicated desktop infrastructure.
Dr. Björn Momsen, Senior Investment Manager at HTGF explains further: “tocario’s unique chance lies in the high performance of the newly developed technology. This opens up completely new markets and areas of application for Hosted Virtual Desktops, especially in the area of graphics intensive or mobile applications. As these areas cannot be addressed with currently available solutions, we see a tremendous international market potential for this technology.”
“Until now professional Desktop Infrastructures were available to Enterprise Customers only. tocario’s solution now enables SMB Customers to profit from the advantages as well.” adds Roman Loch, Investment Manager at LBBW Venture Capital GmbH. “This promising approach combined with the convincing management-team build a strong basis for a successful future of tocario.”
