HTGF invests in automatic package opening systems of ALS Automatic Logistic Solution GmbH

March 4, 2015

After a first successful financing round with a private investor, ALS Automatic Logistic Solution GmbH has now won the support of High-Tech Gruenderfonds (HTGF). ALS develops, manufactures and markets automatic package opening systems, which open cartons without damage to the product.

Because of rapidly growing trade flows in mail order and the entire logistics chain, the number of packages shipped is increasing continuously. Almost half of all packages are opened manually by larger companies in the receiving area for incoming shipments. This is costly and associated with a high risk of injury to the employees. The solution of ALS Logistic Solutions GmbH automates this process: the Box Opening System (BOS) developed by technical director Bernhard Hörl opens cartons in a fully automated procedure.

Cutting depth and height can adjusted on a continuous scale; furthermore different blades can be selected depending on the application. The system includes a specially developed perforation cutter for variable setting of the cutting depth or perforation. The second ALS system, a Package Opener with Window Method (WIM), allows windows to be cut into the carton front. This version is required for the picking process.

Paul Kammerscheid, founder and managing partner, says: “With BOS, the efficiency in the receiving area can be increased by up to 75%. With our system, a carton can be safely opened or perforated within six seconds, which means up to 600 cartons per hour. This makes BOS the fastest and most advanced receiving area technology worldwide.”

“In the context of e-commerce and ever-increasing trade flows, I see a great need in the future for automated opening of cartons and packages. The innovative and market-ready solution of ALS Logistic Solutions GmbH is unique in this form and very economical for the customer. This represents a large market potential”, says Dr. Torsten Loeffler, Investment Manager at HTGF.

A further advantage of the ALS systems compared to manual opening is that no damage is caused to the goods. Thus, ALS is offering a well thought-out solution for mail order business as well as for all companies receiving large amounts of goods, which offers significant cost and rationalization advantages.

About ALS Automatic Logistic Solutions GmbH
ALS Automatic Logistic Solutions GmbH, which was founded in 2013, offers systems for automated opening of cartons and packages. The systems use proprietary developments in the area of cutting and perforation knives. In spring 2015, the product range was extended to include the Window Method. This technique, also known as window cutting, is used for example for removing individual goods through a window on the front of the box for order picking purposes.
