AIM3D GmbH is a spin-off company from the University of Rostock with the aim to drastically reduce the cost of the additive manufacturing of metal parts.
During their work, the founders of AIM3D GmbH often dealt with many different types of additive manufacturing processes for plastics, but also for metals and ceramics. During this time, they realized that the industrial transfer of additive manufacturing techniques often failed due to the high material costs, especially when it came to the manufacturing of metal parts. For this reason, AIM3D GmbH was founded not just with the aim of simply building another 3D printer, but to overcome the limitations of materials and to revolutionize the additive manufacturing market from a cost point of view. In order to make this possible, AIM3D GmbH has designed a printer which offers the customer the opportunity to use multiple types of material on one machine and which is much more cost-efficient than current metal printers.

Blickfeld GmbH was founded in 2016 in Munich and pursues a novel approach to building LiDAR systems for environmental perception of autonomous machines such as autonomous vehicles. envelio is a spin-off from RWTH Aachen University and provides the Intelligent Grid Platform to distribution system operators for the next phase of the energy transition. Grid planning and operation processes are digitalized and automated by envelio’s IGP. This automation enables a faster and more cost-efficient integration of renewable generation and charging points for electric vehicles into the energy system. The core of envelio’s technology are optimization and machine learning algorithms based on the five PhD theses of the founders. envelio was founded in 2017 and now has 15 employees. Among envelio’s customers are e.g. Westnetz and E.DIS.
FMC is the provider of extremely efficient FeFET memory solutions for non-volatile storage. FeFET is ultra-low-power, high-performance, very dense, and extremely temperature stable. It will scale to transistor sizes ranging from 28nm to 5nm and below. The FMC team has been supported by “EXIST Forschungstransfer”, a program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The company is based in Dresden, Germany.
HQS Quantum Simulations predicts material properties using quantum computers. The company accelerates development cycles in the chemistry and pharma industries. Quantum computers can perform calculations impossible even for the most powerful supercomputers. Current quantum computers suffer from intrinsic errors that limit their performance. The HQS Team developes algorithms for quantum computers that can deal with these errors and enable our customers to profit from the performance advantage of quantum computers earlier than their competitors. Furthermore, HQS offers individual simulation solutions for conventional computers with an integration of high-end simulation methods and the possibility to utilize the upcoming quantum computers.

memetis develops foil-based miniature actuators made of shape memory alloys (SMA). SMA are metallic alloys that seem to "remember" a certain shape by electric heating that has been trained beforehand and then assume it independently. The alloy already disposes of these properties, so that no further mechanical components are required. memetis actuators thus enable high switching forces with better integration and higher flexibility compared to conventional solutions. memetis has the expertise to quickly adapt the developed actuators to customer requirements. Due to the extended range of applications, memetis actuators are used in a multitude of innovative industries and sectors.
MetisMotion is a Munich based tech Start-up, founded in 2018. Its core competence covers ultra-dynamic and space/ weight saving linear force actuators. The MetisMotion technology platform combines decades of experience in actuator development for challenging automotive and industrial applications. It is further addressing diverse use-cases, spanning from aviation to robotics.
Compared to conventional linear actuators, MetisMotion actuators are up to 80% smaller and lighter and respond up to 10x faster. Mojin Robotics GmbH is a Fraunhofer IPA spin-off and offers service robotics solutions for versatile applications, e.g. for trade, museums or hospitals.
R3DT provides the most user-friendly virtual reality tool for industrial engineers who want to avoid mistakes in the early planning phase. Zolitron Technology GmbH was founded in 2016 as a spin-off from the Ruhr-University Bochum. It is the declared goal to lift sensor-based digitization projects from small-scale pilots through the use of new technologies to large-scale deployments. Therefore, the founders have developed Micro-Energy-Harvesting, short MEH, in cooperation with Ruhr-University Bochum, MIT and Harvard University, now enabling maintenance-free energy supply of small sensors for the Internet of Things for more than ten years.
Using this technological basis, the world’s first energy and communication autonomous sensor platform was created, the Z-Node. Five unspecific sensors, including accelerometer and magnetometer, indirectly capture the environment. The raw data stream is sent via Sigfox or NB-IoT, therefore without any additional communication infrastructure, into the internet, to be more precisely the Z-Cloud Analytics Backend, where artificially-intelligent machine learning algorithms generate meaningful and commercially relevant learnings. This measurement scheme is called cognitive sensing. Zolitron aims to be the market leader for cognitive sensing until the year 2020.
As a start-up, Zolitron was able to receive multiple distinguished awards, such as the “Gründerwettbewerb – Digitale Innovation” of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy at the CeBIT 2016 in Hannover, or the first place of the 11th Private Equity Conference 2017. Also, the land of North Rhine-Westphalia has supported the foundation of the company through the competition “START-UP Hochschulausgründungen NRW” already in the year 2016.
