Intensive care medical therapy measures are associated with considerable pain. Adequate pain control (analgesia) is an essential component of any intensive medical therapy. Regular monitoring of analgesic therapy for intensive care patients is very important in routine clinical practice. Both overdosing and underdosing of analgesics as well as the associated negative consequences must be avoided.
Dolosys GmbH is a medical technology company focused on the development and manufacture of devices for objective measurement of pain and pain control. As a spin-off from the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the company maintains close ties with current research as well as the realities of everyday clinical practice.
The Dolosys Paintracker enables measurement of the effect of analgesics, particularly of opioids, even under sedation. To do this, the novel technique uses automatic measurement of the analgesia-dependent reflex threshold. The effects of pain therapy can therefore be measured using an objective parameter and concrete treatment recommendations can be derived from these measurements.
The technique can be used in a number of different areas in pain research and clinical pain therapy:
- Inpatient (ICU): Analgesia monitoring for intensive care patients
- Outpatient (pain patients): Determination of the individual effect and course of action of analgesics for chronic pain patients
- Research: Clinical testing of analgesics
At the current planning stage, we expect to launch the Paintracker in December 2014 after completing the CE certification process as a medical device.
