qLearning launches new online platform allowing users to create their own study materials
May 12, 2015
With the support of its latest investor, High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), qLearning has launched an online platform that enables students and teachers of any discipline to create and share their own study materials. The platform is designed to complement qLearning’s popular mobile app, which already boasts a user base of more than 80,000 students. It also ensures the company keeps up with the ever-evolving student demand for practical learning tools. The investment by HTGF completes this year’s Series A funding raised in January.
qLearning’s decision to complement its current product with a web-based platform is a response to feedback from its growing base of student users, who have requested the possibility of not only using existing content but also creating study materials of their own.
“The idea to launch this kind of platform has existed ever since the company was founded, but it is only through more recent experiences that we have gained the necessary know-how to successfully implement such a product,” explains Felix Klühr, founder and CEO of qLearning.
The platform enables every student to create and share study materials in the form of multiple choice questions and flashcards. It also allows them to use and rate the study materials created by their peers. An intelligent rating mechanism paired with direct feedback-loops serves to ensure a self-contained and scalable quality assurance of all materials created.
“The combination of a great product, an intelligent business model and a scalable approach has convinced us of the platform’s potential,” recalls Sebastian Suhr, Investment Manager at HTGF. “We believe that higher education is still very much in its digital infancy. By creating an extensive base of high-quality mobile study materials, qLearning has positioned itself at the forefront of an exciting new educational era.”
Besides HTGF, hub:raum, the incubator of Deutsche Telekom also participated in this round of financing.
The new platform is now accessible to the public in beta at www.qlearning.io.
