Successful follow-on finance for amedo Smart Tracking Solutions GmbH

March 31, 2010

amedo Smart Tracking Solutions GmbH concludes the second round of finance led by EnjoyVenture and strengthens its management team. Amedo Smart Tracking Solutions GmbH, established in mid-2008, has received further follow-on finance from ELS Fonds, managed by EnjoyVenture Management GmbH, High-Tech Gründerfonds, the KfW banking group and new strategic investors. With Wolfgang Lubert, EnjoyVenture Management GmbH will be the lead investor in this round. Dr. Marc Böhme will join the management team where he will be responsible for sales and marketing.

The company is developing a new kind of technology platform based on RFID transponders, enabling the wireless positioning of minimally invasive surgical instruments. Surgical navigation systems are used more and more in complex surgical procedures. Thanks to this new development, wireless positioning can, for the first time, be realised with sub-millimetre accuracy within the body; the systems currently on the market permit, at best, precision to the nearest millimetre.

“We are very pleased about the commitment demonstrated by EnjoyVenture Management GmbH, High-Tech Gründerfonds, the KfW banking group and the new strategic investors. The capital will be used not only to develop the RFID technology further, but also to establish the innovative product systems on the market speedily. We have been able to recruit Dr. Marc Böhme, an experienced sales professional from the medical technology sector, for amedo GmbH”, said Managing Director Volker Trösken.

Dr. Marc Böhme has many years of experience in the medical technology and pharmaceuticals sectors with a focus on sales, marketing and business development, which he has demonstrated in groups with global operations, such as Fresenius Medical Care, Abbott and C.R. Bard, but also as CEO of a medium-sized medical technology business.

“amedo Smart Tracking Solutions GmbH develops and sells unique innovative products with exceptional potential in their market segments and a highly motivated team with sector experience. The equity holdings in the company will make it possible to distribute this technology, which is now ready for the market, as fast as possible by means of professional distribution,” explained the new Managing Director Dr. Marc Böhme.

“We are convinced by the far-reaching business model and the fact that amedo Smart Tracking Solutions GmbH reached key milestones during the seed finance phase,” is how Dr. Bernd Goergen, Senior Investment Manager of High-Tech Gründerfonds, and Wolfgang Lubert, CEO of EnjoyVenture Management GmbH, explained the further commitment. “We are very confident that the highly competent management team will, through our investment, achieve a technological quantum leap in navigating surgical intervention on the market very soon.”

About KfW banking group:
Start-ups, technology-oriented businesses as well as established small and medium-sized enterprises will find coordinated and transparent equity finance on offer here. KfW raises private equity capital for new, innovative technology businesses with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) and its own ERP start-up fund. In so doing, KfW normally invests without becoming involved in managing the business. Yet the precondition is that another investor (a lead investor) commits at least the same amount. An investment by KfW is subject to the same commercial terms as that from the lead investor.
